Accrediting System For Matric. Suggested INTERRUPTED SCHOOL YEAR Concern regarding the hahdicap to be faced by secondary school pupils jntending to sit for matriculation this year — a handicap caused through an interrupted school year brought about by the infantile paralysis — was expressed by the chairman of the Hawke's Bay Education Board, Mr G. A. Maddison, at yesterday's meeting of the board. Acting on his suggestion, the board decided to ask the Departnient of Education to give favourable consideration $0 the accrediting system for matriculation candidates this year. "It is going to be very hard on these pupils, and I doh't think that they should be penalised because of the epidemic," said Mr Maddison. Mr G. H. 'Cooke: I understand that ihe matriculation examination ia to be postponed this year. The acting-secretary Mr F. Melhuish : Yes, it is. But it can't be delayecT more than a fortnight. The senior inspector, Mr T. A. Moreland: If the board requested the department to modify the examination, it would strengthen our hand. "Why liot let us suggest that the accrediting system be adopted this year," asked Mr Maddison. "We could at least ask the department. I move in this direction. His motion was seconded and carried unanimously.
