Religious Instruction Discussed

HAUMOANA, This Day. A meeting of the Clive Grange School Committee was held on Wednesday might. Present: Messrs Byford (chair), McCorniiack (secretary), Mrs Chapman, Messrs Stevenspn, J3oaler and the head teacher, Mr Cockerill. The secretary reported that he had made arrangepients for the erection of » a new gate at the back entrance of the school. The question of religious instruction in the school was discussed, and it was agreed that the chairman should communieate with. the Ministers' Association with a view to having optional religious instruction given for half an hour each week. , Mrs iVlludgvrayj the caretaker, -for^ warded her resignation on account of leaving the district. It was decided tp call for tenders to fill the vacancy. Authority for the purchase of paiut was given. Hegarding Coronation arrangements, the matter was left over as it was felt that the Education Board would be circularising the schools. It was agreed to erect a new fiag pole at the school and to obtain three cords of woed for winter firing. A sum of £2 was authorised for the purpose of replenishing the Red Cross cupboardlt was decided to abandon the idea of a picnic as the season is so advanc,ed and there is still a dsnger of infec- , tion.
