BOXING AND WRESTLING
Gymnastic Club BouU The first open club night of the new season oi the Hastings Gymnastic Club on Wednesday evening attracted a big nrowd and some excellent boxing and wrestling was witneseed, the performances of the amatenrs being greeted with obvious enthusiasm and delight. Though all the bouts were no-deeision affairs, every one was well worth watching and the programme was really a remarkably fine one in every respect. The novelty of including both boxing and wrestling on the same programme was no doubt fully appreciated. The chairman of the executive, Mr C. H. Bunker, expressed the club's thanks to those who had supported the" club by attending and explained that the club was out to serve the community in the very essential aspect of physkal culture. Last year, the first. enjoyed by the club, had been a most successful one and the prospects for the coming year were very bright. He trusted that the club would continue to receive the support it deserved in its efforts to fulfil a need that -was generally admitted existed in the town. The officiais for the evening were Messrs H. Connop (timekeeper), H. G. Apperley (announcer and boxing referee), G. Deakin (wrestling xeferee). The various bouts were as follow; — BOXING. Peter Swayne v. Rex Davie. N. Wakefield v. C. Beale. J. Davey (Waipukurau) v. T. Payne (Hastings). J. Davis (Hastings) v, S. Smailes (Waipukurau), WRESTLING. G. Murphy v. J. Boyd. J. Coe v, A. Platt. J. Scudder v. J. Stewart. W. Hamilton v. W. Whittaker. The evening 's entertainment concluded with au intereating and instruc* tive wrestling exhibition bout by G. Deacon and the Hastings professional, He/rh. Brinson.
