Throat Hurt on Clothes Line. Miss Verne Baines, the schoolgirl daughter of Mr and Mrs Alex. Baines, who is at school in Hawera, had a somewhat curious accident. She was running around the playground in a game with other girls, when she collided violently with a clothes-line. This cut her neck ani bruised her throat and neck so severely that at present she has great difficnlty in either speasing or eating. Ormondville Colf Draw. On the Ormondville golf links at the week-end the first round of tho "Primrose Cup" competition, combined with a niedal round, will be played. Tlie draw is as follows: T. Fitzgerald v H. fi. Play will begin at 1 p.m. sharp. To Uri School. The monthly meeting of the Te Uri School committee was will attended, Mr O. Williams, chairman, presiding. It was decided to hold euchre parties each alternate Saturday night throughout the winter, in aid of the school funds. Norsewood Farmers' Union. The annual meeting of the Norsewood Farmers' Union was held in the reading room. Mr W. Jenkins, chairman, presided. He expressed pleasure at the success of the competitions, and the, support farmers were giving them, especially the pasture competitions, which would undouhtedly prove of great value to the district, being the chief crop the farmers had to rely . on to get their returns. The financial statement disclosed a small credit balance. Hearty thanks and appreciation were expressed to the chairman, and also the secretary, for their efficient manner and the live interest taken in the work of the branch. The election of officers resulted: Chairman, Mr W. Jenkins ; secretary and treasurer, Mr A. W. Montgomerie, delegates to attend the provincial executive meetings, Messrs Jenkins, Montgomerie, H. Stratford, H. A. Olsen and It. Anderson. The cull cow drive, organised by the Herd-Testing Association, unfortunately was not being aecorded tbe support it deserved from local farmers. Several speakers stressed the advantages to be gained by supporting the movement as against the old method of testing in the yards, Chureh Army's Work. On Monday night Captain King, a Church Army officer, gave a most interesting and instructive lantern lecture - in St. James's Sunday School-room, Otane. There was an excellent attendance, and the lecturer spoke briefly on all aspects of the Army 's work, the pictures shown illustrating its magnitude. An idea of the vast amount of work accomplished was the employment Of over 200 clerks at headquarters in London. The Army 'g housing scheme alone was a big undertaking, and hundreds of houses had been built every year to house the larger and poorer families from the slum areas of the big cities in England. A special tribute was paid to the founder of the Church Army, the Rev. Wilson Carlile, and his sieter, both of whom had devoted their lives to the work, and to many others who had given up lucrative positions to work for God and humanity. Waipukurau Tenuis Ball. The ladies of tho Waipukurau Tennis Club met yesterday to arrange details for the fortb coming ball when the following committee was set up: Miss H. JHunter (organiser), Mesdames H.-.E. Coats, C. F. Hartland and J. A. McLean; Misses A. Hobson, P. Clark, M. Buchanan, V. Harding, M. Eiddell, A. Schroder, A. Wilder an'd S. McLanghlan. No A. and P. BaAl. At the recent meeting of the executive of the Waipukurau A. and P. Association it was decided that in view of ihe improved condition of the Associations finances no ball be held this year.
