SUCCESSFUL HASTINGS GUILD ENTERTAINMENT
A most successful entertainment, arranged by members of the Hastings Townswomen's Guild was given in, the Oddfellows' Hall, last evening, to a large and most appreciative audience. The stage looked most beautiful with its artistically arranged floral decorations consisting of large bowls earried out in all autumn tints of gold, orange and flame. Masses of dahlias, chrysanthemums, ziunias, gaillardias and African marigolds were arranged with bronze foliage, and from the bowls standing up high there were lang trails of Virginian creeper. Mesdames Vaughan, R. Campbell, Kirkpatrick and Rood were xesponsible for the lovely decorations. The entertainment was arranged by Mrs G. P. Hopkins and Mrs V. L. Westerman, who spared no elfort to make it such a succesx. Mrs E. V. Simpson," in the absence of, the Guild president, Mr A. F. Glenny, extended a warm welcome to all pre«ent. She mentioned that the entertainment was the first eince its inception that the Guild had made any appeal for funds and she thanked all Ihe Hastings and Napier friends wh'o had rallied round to give such a splen- I did programme. | The programme was sis follows: dance, Highland Fling, Patty Miller; elocutionary items, Mr Searle; skipping dance, Patty Atlcins; vocal solos, Mr Bentley ; dance, ' ' Top Hat, Wliite Tie and Tails," Patty Atkins; vocal solos, Miss Colemanj Indian dance, Patti Marsicano ; 'eello solos, Mr Marsicano; vocal solos, Mr Jackson. The accompaniments were played by Miss McHutcheon and Miss Mary Collins. The seeond part of the programme was presented by members of the Napier Townswomen's Guild and was as follows: Vocal items by the choir, "Spring Song," and " Where 'er You Walk": vocal solos, "Alleluia," and "World that was Once a Garden," Mrs S. Nixon; recitation, a Dickens ckaracter isketch, Mrs K. O 'Halloran; vocal solos, "My Shrino," and "In a Monastery Garden," Mrs Sorrell; playreading, "He Lied to Her Husbaud" (Bernard Shaw), those taking part beong Mrs Barnett, Mrs K. O'Halloran and Mrs Sweetapple; vocal solos, "I Wonder if Love is a Dream," and ' ' Love 'b Echo, ' ' Mrs C. Nicholson Mrs Rosewarne was the accompanist. The whole programme was most dplightful and every performer was heartily applauded, many eneores being demanded from them. Mrs G. A. Maddison thanked all those who had helped to make the evening such a euccess and she mentioned especially the good fellowship shown by members of the. Napier Guild. A buffet supper was served in the supper room where "the long tables were decorated with crystal bowls and vases of marigolds, yellow broom, dahlias, bronze foliage and maidenhair fern.
