Garden Party. and Box-opening at Ormondville

(From

ORMONDVILLE, Last Night. The annual garden party and boxopening for the Pr Barnardo's Homes toojj; place in Mrs T. G. Hosking's grounds. The beautiful- garden was looking its hest, with smoothly shaven lawns and beds of briglitly lxued autumn flowers, a bed^" of orange marigolds making a particularly vivid splash - of colcur. A great peach tree spread its sbade over the f ront lawn, its fruit proving very tempting to .the younger guests. Most of the lawn at ihe rear of the house was given over to the children, and & swing hanging from the big apple tree there was a great attraction. Mrs Hoskiaxg, the president, and Misa Ella Brabazon, the' secretary, of this branch of helpers of the Barnardo's Homes, had- arranged an attractive programme for the entertainment of their visitors'. Before afternoon tea, clock golf and quoitg competitions were keenly contested, Miss F. Hosking winning the golf with a score of 23, and the Rev, S. B. R. Corkin the quoits. The children also entered whole-heartedly into a quoits contest, which was superintended hy Winnj© Anderson, and resulted in a tie between Croyden' Trask and Maurice Forward.' Those guests who ,did not enter the competition spent " their time very pleasantly chatting, or strolling aboufc under the .trees, until afternoon-tea timei, when all assembled on the main lawn, and did full justice to the delioious fare provided. Immediately after tea the box-open-ing ceremony took place, the children gathering round .with eager interest to see how much each box yielded. The president told them how pleased she was with what they had done, and hoped it would encourage them to go on with the work, especially aa was to assist othei;. children, much as themselves, but who had not had their . advantages, and had no parents to help them along. After this an advertisement competition was entered into with great zest, by both children and adults, and caused lots of amusement, the victor proving to be Mrs H. Howes. |An enjoyable afternoon terminated with the presentation of trophies to the winners of the competitions. The whole of th» proceeds from this effort will go to the Pr Barnardo's Homes fund.
