Importance of The Little Coat

(From Our London Correspondent) THERE has never been a season when the little coat has been so much worn and has proved so nseful. I tbink it will be a very long time before women allow it to fade out of popularity, for not only is it tbe smartest possible complement to a froek but it is able to bide defects in an evening ensemble, if tbese defects exist. An old-fasbioned dinner gown, provided its skirt is passable, takes on a new lease of life if a smart coat is available for wear witb it, and many a simple satin or lace dress is made by its accompanying coatee. Indeed, tke useful little coat seems to have been invented speeially to lielp the woman with a small dress allowance to overcome her ' wardrobe difficulties. v Not that the jacket is, in any sense of the word, a make-shift garment. Ratker is it an important one, very few, dresses being made just now without their matching coats. But where a dress has already seen much service, or where it has cost a good deal of money in the first place and, for some reason, has not been worn a great deal, it is possible to have a coat made speeially for wear with it wkieh will bring it right up-to-date. Think out the jacket witb great care. The simply-made one of a remnaut of silk or ring \ elvet is by no means the besl ehoice. A luxurious material and a rather elaborate style will make it a much more use> fnl proposition, and will brini you. into the forefront of welh dressed people. Lame is a very good ehoice so far as material goes. There " is a ^ new make which is best described as golc and silver, for the pale golder threads seem to pe interwover with a certain number of silvery ones, and this makes tli loveliest of short coats. It very supple in texture' so tha1 the folds hang gracefully, t nost important factor m any *,hing conneeted with evenmj slothes, and the fabric alon. nakes any garment beautiful to rieli and ailrnctive is ^ » juality and design.
