(By Telegraph-
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. An announcement is expecteff shortly from the Government of now rates of pay and conditions of work for tbo police force, Representations made by the Police Association through the commissioner, Mr D. J. Cummings, to" the Minister in Charge of Police, the Hon. P. Fraser, have been under consideration for som© considerable time, and the announcement of Cabinet's decision in the matter has been eagerly awaited by members of the force. It is stated that police have been working a 5.6-hour week for a considerable peripd, and that a reduction in this was one of the chief points made by the association in its request for new conditions. • Matrons in the force were recently given a new working agreement and salary increases granted them made retrospective from January 1. Their application for new conditions was made, as was that of the male members Of the force, a considerable time ago, and there is much speculation amongj the ordinary members of the force as to whether retrospective pay will also be given on their application.
