Central H.B. Annnal Report WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. Tha secretary of the Central Hawke 's Bay B%sketball Association presented the following report to the annual meeting: — ' 1 During the 1936 season ten teams were entered in the Central Hawke's Bay competitions; eight in the Saturday and two in the Wednesday matches. The Otane seniors won both competitions. "On June 23 a 'knock out' tournament was held in Waipukurau. Luncheon was provided at a small cost and a very pleasant day was spent, the honours being keenly contested. "During the season friendly games were played with Napier on various cccasions. "On August 5 the Central Hawke's Bay representative team played Bush at Dannevirke, and, after a very keen game, were defeated, thus being^ debarred from attending the Dominion tournament. "The 'B' representative team played Dannevirke but was defeated. "In July a dance was held in Waipukurau. This was quite a successful function and £7 was made. "In August the Waipawa School teams held a ' shop ' in Otane. This was very successful and the teams made £16 out of the venture. • "By various donations and by eharging £1 each for non-playing passehgers the association was able to take two representative teams to the Rotorua open tournament, and we should like 'to take this opportunity of thanking Miss I. Farrelly for her capable coaching of the team. All who went to Rotorua thoroughly enjoyed the tournament; the girls gained considerable cxperience in the game by meeting so many other players, and many trips of real educational value were nndertaken during the stay. "The only trophy brought back was a shield for originality in ( fancy dress at the ball. "The annual field day and ainner were held in Waipukurau, two teams from Napier competing. Play was keen, the standard being raised by the visiting teams. A very enjoyable dinner in the evening brought a happy and successful season to a close. "We should like to take this opportunity of thanking all officials, friends and supporters who made our many activities possible." ^
