Eleven members of the district union, which is without national affiliation, were shot down in the principal street while parading past the headquarters of the International Mine Mill Smelter Workers Union, which is affiliated with the Committee of Industrial Organisation. This came as a climhx to-day, during which 4000 lead and zinc miners rufed the district with pick h'andles in a demonstration to thwart the C.I.O. organisation. A few hours previously miners prevented the C.I.O. from meeting at Picher (Oklahoma), 25 miles away, sending seven men to hospital with battered heads in street fighing, in which no shots were fired but pick handles were wielded freely, Tfie demonstrators came to Galentalate in the atfernoon, after wreeking the headquarters of the C.I.O, at Picher and Treece (Kansas), and flogging a constable at Keller. At Ockerville (Oklahoma) due to C.I.O. sympathy, 500 formed a parade and hurled smoke bombs at the windows of the headquarters of the International Mine Mill Smelters Workers' Union, from which 20 men fired pistols and shotguns. Stray bullets broke the windows of a nearby cinema, causing the occupants, mostly children, to flee. The sheriff has sworn in speeial deputies to police the town to-night.
