REXIST LEADER DISCREDITED Must be Blow to Italy And Germany BRUSSELS CELEBRATES

(By Telegiaph-

Sopyxight.)

(Beceived 13, 10.45 a.m.) BBUSSELS, April 12. A prophetic result of the Belgian elections was a grotesque figure of the Bexist leader, M. Leon Degrelle, that was drawn through the streets of Brusisels all day inscribed "Iam going away forever." Bexists not only lost a seat in Parliament, .leaving them representation of 20 memhers, but were utterly discredited. The battle ground was their own choice, therefore a safe inference would be that M. Degrelle would have beeh even more decisively defeated elsewhere in Belgiunu M. Degrelle was plainly discouraged but said he was carrying on. The victorious Premier, M. Paul van Zeeland, declared: "The result surpasses all my hopes.'* The general view is that M. Degrelle will quietly fade out of the picture. It is unlikely that those mysterious ■ sources so liberally financing his pro* paganda will continue in face of so decisive a defeat. International observers regard the result as a decisive blow to Germany and Italy, which had more than an impersonal interest in M. Degrelle 's success.
