WAIPAWA'S WIND-UP TOURNEY
* (From Our Own Correspondent) WAIPAWA, Last Night. Tbe most successful season for severai years was brought to a close on the Waipawa Tennis Club's courts oyer the week-end, when a Yankee tournament was held as a wind-up of the season's operations. The winners of this event were Messrs. W. Collett and L, Cossar. The weather was perfeet for the oecasion and the entries were exceptionally good. At the conclusion of play the president of the Tennis Club, Dr Norris, took tbe opportunity of preseniing the various trophies won during the season. These trophies, for the championship events, consisted of severai handsome cups (with miniatures) recently acquired by the club for the purpose, the holders this season being : — ^Ladies' championship, Miss A. d'Emden; men's championship, Mr E. J. Watts ; ladies' junior championship, Miss M. Carne; men's junior championship, Mr Mackey. The trophies for the handicap, events consist of silver shields mounted on a wooden base, and were awarded as follow : — Combined doubles, Miss Wills and Mr Mackey ; men's doubles, Messrs Knoblock and Davis ; ladies' doubles, Misses Wills and Butler; men's singles, Mr E. J. Watts; ladies' singles, Miss A. d'Emden., , Dr Norris expressed pleasure at the success 'which had attended the present season, due in a large measure to the members of an energetic committee, although the keenness of the members had helped materially, and he hoped that next season would show an ever greater improvement. The courts wouJd receive a lot of attention in the next few weeks, and should be in very good order by next year.
