TENNIS SEASON ENDS

Waipukurau Club's Closing Day (From Our Own Correspondent) WAIPUKURAU, Last Nigbt. The weather was ideal for the official closing of the Waipukurau Lawn Tennis Club's season, which took place on Saturday afternoon. There was a large gatliering of members and friends and the courts were occupied throughout the afternoon for the Yankee tournament which had been arranged. In declaring the courts closed for the season, the president, Mr A. M. Johnstone, stated that it was sad to think' the tennis season had come to an end, but the courts had to he topdressed and other cluhs were opening for winter sport, so they thought it was .advisable to close. The club had come through a most successful season, mostly due to the individual members wbo bad taken a keen interest . in tbe welfare of the club. He congratulated the winners of tbe various events, and stated that the club ! was indebted' to Miss Helen Hunter for donating a silver challenge cup to be called The Sir George Hunter Memorial Cup, and to Mr J. GoringJohnstone, for donating a handsome silver challenge cup for the ladies' championship singles. Mr Johnstone then called upon the donors to present the trophies to the following: — , Ladies' Championship Singles (Gor-ing-Johnstone Cup). — -Mite M. Hartley. lntermediate (Tennis racquet presented by Mr L. Boachen). — Mrs Bert Selierf. Men's Championship Singles (Sir George Hunter Memorial Cup). — J. D. Ormond, junr. lntermediate (Mr F. Hewitt's trophy).-— Allan Keeling. Tbe winners of the .Yankee tournarixent, Miss Amy Schroder and ; Colin Uook, both received trophies. A dainty afternoon tea was dispeiised by Mrs L. and Miss Harker, who were assisted by club members.
