ALLOWANCES FOR M.P.'s
£2 a Day for Investigations The fact that Members of Parliament who wero carrying out various investigations, assistiug the Ministers of the Orown to prepare reports, were paid an allowance of £2 a day was mentioned by Mr H. G. Dickie, Member for Patea, in his address at Hastings last avening. Under the old legislation, he pointed 3ut, only Ministers of the Crown derivBd expenses allowances while carrying out their duties. Under the present Finance Act ordinary members of Parliament, when they assisted the Ministers in various ways, received an allowance"It is easy to find a motive to pay 1 few pounds for a j°b to be investigated that is not worth tuppence really," he said. "I'm on the wrong side of the* fence, 30 I don't get any of these jobs at £2 1 day," he added with a smiie.
