Engineer's Report on Work Done During Month

WAIPAWA, This Day. Following is tlie report to be presented by the engineer, Mr V. E. Douglas, at the montbly meetiug of the Waipawa County Council: — Waipawa Riding. — A scour on the Te Onepu road was repaired, and two cujverts on. Co-Uege road were taken up, relaid and the inlets concreted. The approaches to Smjth's bridge on the Argyll road were paved with premix. The horse grader completed the work on Hickey's road. Onga riding. — Metal was spread on the scenic reserve road and the road by the Tukituki bridge, and both are now in order. 'Slips were removed on Glenny's road, a culvert cleaned and willows cut back. Some patchihg was carried out on the Springhill road. The
lull road on either side or Hull's slab .vas repaired and the water tables cleared. The drain hy Perry's and the proposed drainage through Theobald's Wells' were inspected with the riding members. Grading was done on Lindsay road, Scenic Reserve road, Swamp road and Plantation road. The cutting hack of corners at Blackburn Ridge is proceeding. Clinton Riding. — The culvert at the far end of Black's ro^d was widaned and the half-mile of road beyond this culvert is now bein'g metalled on the wheel tracks as previously outlined and authorised. That part cf Black's road over the hill for about one mile is fairly rough and would require metalling to put it in order. A new twofoot culvert was installed hy tunnelling under the concrete slab on the Fair-field-Takapau road. Takapau Riding. — Crushed metal was spread on the roads in this riding. The following roads have been suilaced : Kopua-JN orsewood road; Bain's road; itangitoto road (full lengtli) ; and hill section of Paulsen's road. The crusher worked for 147 hours crushing metal for these roads. Main Britfges. c- «.
Balfour' s Bridge.— An attempt is being made to divert the stream by a shangle bank .being built by scoop and which was outlined at the last meeting. O'Callaghan's bridge is 'completed and work has been commenced.on filling approaches. The approaches to Carlyon' s bridge have been filled in but not yet metailed. Traffic is using the new bridge. The MilJ road (Clinton) Washout work has nct yet been commenced. Piles have been driven and construction of abutments commenced at McLeod's bridge. Main Highways JN apier-Palmerston State Highway. — General maintenarice. Pit metal has been spread on either side of the bitutnen to build up the edges. Waipawa-Pourerere Main Highway.
