THE TAIHAPE ROAD
Worthy of Improvement BEAUTIFUL SCENERY That the beautiful scenery to he found along the Kuripaponga road was deserving of better roading facilities for sightseers was the opinion expressed by Cf E. H. Beamish at this morning's meetnig of the Hawke's Bay County Council. Acting upon his recommendation, the council decided to ask the Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, to travel oYer the road when he visits Napier soon, with a vievv to recommending that it be declared a main highway under the control of the Main Highways Board. "I don't know whether councillors have travelled over the Kuripaponga road, but I fnust say that when 1 went over it recently 1 was tremendously impressed by the interesting countryside — some good, some bad," said Cr. Beamish. "I maintain that the Main Highways Board should declaro that road a main highway and to give it more consideration than it has had in the past. The scenety is good, but the hoaa is bad, and that is the main reason, 1 think, why there is not more traffic on the road." •He was of the opinion that the council should endeavour to have the Minister cf Transport go over the road and inspect it for hiinself. "The -Minister is coming to this district soon and we will try and persuade liim to nlake an1 inspeetion," replied the chairman, Mr F. B. Logan. Cr Beamish thought that settlers west of Kuripaponga, such as Mr Drummond, Fernie and others, were deserving of more consideration than they were getting. Cr. Beamish had taken the secretary of the Automobile Assoeiation (H-B.), Mr R. M. Chadwick, along tffe road and he expressed the view that the road was thoroughly deserving of being declared a . main highway. ____ "
