WAIPAWA, Laat Night. The monthly meeting of the Waipawa District High Sehool Committee was held last evening. Present: Messrs. W, E. Yates (chairman), Y. A. Patterson, A. Egglestone, M.' Martin, Mrs. Preston and the headmaster. Leave of absence was granted Mrs. Adeane and Mrs. Strang (seeretary). Tlie secretarial duties were carried out by the headmaster. A letter from the Waipawa Borough Gouncil intimated that the payment of £5 made by the committee on account of water charges had been accepted conditionally on the committee installing two meters at the school, otherwise the full amount of £10 would have to be paid. Considerable discussion ensued, information being before the committee of charges made in other centres, as iollow: — Waipukurau; water supplied by meter, there being a free allowance of 250 gallons a year per child on the roll. Thereafter a charge of 1/li per 1000 gallons. The average payment by the primary department over the past five years was £4 13/7 per annum, and by the secondary department £1 10/5. Woodville: 750 gallons per pupil free, • thereafter a charge of 1/- per 1000 gallons. It was resolved to ask the council to furnish an estimate of the cost of xepairing the present meters and, if meters were installed, what concession would be made to the school on the meter charges. The seeretary is to communieate with th'e Education Board xegarding the conveyance of children from. Otane and district to the High School. • The sub-coinmittee appointed to deal with the supply of milk to the children was authorised to continue to function, and to repbrt .progress at the nest meeting. The headmaster repoifled the attendance as follows: — Primary roll 196, average 173; secondary roll 74, average 69. It was decided to purchase a basketball for the girls and the headmaster was authorised to obtain quotes for school football jerseys. The seeretary is to ask the Education Board if the work of preparing the land- recently purchased in Harker street for the erection of the new school could be put ip. hand.this season so tha't it would be all ready when tha new sehool was built.
