Commencing on Monday, April 19, the various brauches of the union in Hawke's Bay wili carry out a concerted effort, vriiicJi, it is lioped, will lead to an increase of at least 50 per cent. in the number of members. Already details of the campaign have been planned, and, with the co-operation of retailers, it is uopcd to stage a most successful campaign. There will be eommenced a series of rallie* and meetings at suitable places, so that the aims, objects and advantages of the Farmers' Union may be brought foroibly before the whole of the farming community. The week will be devoted to an orgjanised canvass of all farmers who' at present are not members. The Dominion president, Mr W. \V. Mulholland, in a statement on the matter, referrted the urgent need for every farmer to be a member of. the union. "Farmers are recognising this," he said, "and I feel sure that it is only necessary to approach many of those outside the ranks to induce them to join up at once. That is the idea of this membership drive, and every farmer who is not in the union will be^directly approached and asked to join in with his fellows so that the pnmary producers of this country may be able to speah with a united voice in regard to the many problems that concern them all so deeply especially at the present time." Mr Mulholland said that it was hoped to increase the membership of the union by at least 50 per cent. as a result of the drive which was being taken up most enthusiastically . in all districts- Personally, he had no doubt of the result.
