SHOULD TRY TO HELP THEMSELVES

iockey Players and Condition of Taradale Park ATTITUDE OF BOARD

Players should be prepared to help themselves a little and ishould not look to the board to do everything, " said Mr J. Wainscott at last night's meeting of the Taradale Town Board when the Hockey Club wrote drawing attention to the state of a ground on the park. "When players play on a wet ground and make a lot of holes," said Mr Wainscott, "they should be prepared to roll it. They can't expect the board to give the ground attention after each time that it has been played on. Players will have to endeavour to a/ssist themselves a little. The board has always put the ground in order at the begiuning of the season and can't be expected to do more. The keeping of the playing areas on Nelson Park, Napier, is quite a different proposition where several men aTe employed for the purpose." The overseer, Mr W. G. Jarvis, explained that there would always be a difficulty while the park was grazed by sheep. The grass could not be expected to be in the same even order as was the case when it was kept mowed regularly. It was agreed to put the ground in order as in past seasonls and to advise the club that the board has not got the means to keep it rolled regularly.
