BROKERS' REPORTS

General satisfaction with the excellent returns realised by wool-growers at yesterday's wool sale at Napier is expressed by the various selling brokers, who report on their realisations as follow: — H.B. FARMERS' CO-OP. 9 The Hawke's Bay Farmers' Co-opera-tive Association Ltd., report that the final sale of the season for Hawke's Bay wools at Napier took place yesterday and proved by far the best of the season for crossbred wools of every type. The total offering was 20,963 bales,. of which we contributed 5526 bales, which include 1740 bales of pooled wools. The display in our store was a good one for a final sale, although there was the usual proportion of seedy lots from baek-country and late-shorn clips. There was a full benclx of buyers and competition was very keen and widely spread, Bradford, Japanese, Continental, U.S.A. and Canadian btiyers being the most prominent, the competition from the latter two countries favourably affecting the prices of the coarset types. France, as usual, was a strong competitor for fine wools, and also the bulk of bellies and pieces. Lambs' wool was eagerly sought for by France, tliough meeting with strong competition from Bradford, and on specially suitable lines from the Dominion mills. The concluding series of Hawke's Bay saies leaves "store hare of stocks to carry forward and this gives good promise to growers for a continuance of payable prices for next season. The following are among our leading prices: — TP conjoined (Est. T. S. Percival) : lbs. A 19|d. DB in oval (Jas. D. Davidson) : lbs. 19d. HB/Kowhai (W. Hamilton) : lbs. 20. PP (P. Paterson) : E 19d . The fourth and final wool sale for the season was held in Napier yesterday when approximately 21,000 bales were offered. Our catalogue consisted of 3925 bales. There was almost a total clearance. The seleetion was, of cour.se, not up to the standard of the earlier saies bnt nevertheless there were quite a number of very useful lines offered. As was expected the sale was a remarkable one, being easily the best sale of the season. This is particularly gratifying as growers who were unable to catch the earlier saies must now feel very pleased. The bidding from the ontset was nui-

mated and competition was well dise tributed with Bradford, the Continent, |, America and Canada veiry much in d evidence. Japan was also buying, but 1. to a far lesser degree. j In comparison with the third sale in it February prices- for fine crossbreds were ^ generally 3d a lb. higher. Medium j- crossbreds 3d to 4d, and coarse crossbreds 2d, pieees and bellies 2d to 3d, j locks ld, good lambs 2d. Seedy and , f aulty lambs -were rather erratic and ^ showed about ld improvement. J Included in our catalogue were some ' exceptionally good lines of interlotted L wools, and once more these lines com- • manded the attention of the buyers and • realised very satisfactory prices. We had 800 bales of fleece wool • interlotted, the average price of which : would be 18d to 183d. There was one 1 lot at 14d which was the lowest price ; for interlotted fleece, and this line was 1 really inferior and plastered with seed. ■ Binned wools also inet with very keen ' competition and sold remarkably well. ' The wool market is no doubt very , strong at present and the carry-over in 1 New Zealand at the end of the season 1 is negligible, which makes the outloOk , for next season all the brighter, but of , course no one can tell what is in store so far ahead. N.Z. LOAN & MERCANTILE. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report as follows: — The final sale in this centre for the current season was held in the Drill Hall yesterday when a total catalogue of 20,967 bales were offered? There was the usual full bench of buyers who from the outset made it apparent that, at the final sale, prices were at the highest point of the season. Bradford and Continental buyers were exceptionally keen for all classes of wool and competition was at times very excited for fleece wools. For akirtings, bellies, and locks the Continental section were extremely keen and prices for these show a hardening iendency on recent saies. Lambs' wool, of which there was a fair entry, was in strong demand from Bradford, Continent and Australia and prices for this were at the highest point of the season. The wool.opened up in fair condition but, as was to be expected at a final rfale, it was not so bright as earlier ufferings and can be deseribed as from good top-making to inferior sorts. Many farmers whose wool, through limitation of catalogues, was unabl6 to be offered earlier wrere inclined to b6 disappointed, bu't as the market was at the highest point of the season they can congratulate themselves their wool was not offered earlier, as they have gained fully 2d per pound. De Peliehet, McLeod and Co., Ltd., report having held their3 fourth wos»l sale of the season yesterday, when they offered 1016 bales. The biilk of our wools are from Hawke's Bay and come into the early market. The competition was probably the keenest of the season. Prices showed the most pronounced'increase, generally from 3d to 4d per lb. as compared with last sale. The remarkably high prices being paid now for coarse longwools is the most conspicuous feature of the present market. All sellers must be pleased with the results obtained, and our hope is that at the opening saies next season the present level of prices . may be sustained. Murray, Roberts ahd Co. report holding the fourth and final sale of the season and offering a catalogue of 3528 bales. Although at this period of the selling season it is expected that the wools on offer are not usually up to the standard of earlier saies, we can report eat'aloguing many attractive lots. This is accounted for by reason of the firmness of the market at the commencement of the season, and the consequent rush of growers to dispase of their clips. As a result catalogues were necessarily closed early, and the offering contained many clips shorn in December. Brokers are now in the happy position of being able to report almost total clearances in all saies, and very little wool therefore will be carried over. The sale was very keen and anlmated with bidding well spread, and all sections of the trade operating freely. Prior to this sale the highest point was reached in Jannary and eased again in February, but January prices were now more than recovered and the final sale was undoubtedly the most successful of the season. It wasclear that there was a strong demand for wool of all classes, the inquiry for crossbreds being particularly keen and for which buyers appeared to have very elastic limits. For the second occasion this sea'son we experienced a total clearance under the hammer. Matapiro: AAE I93d, ADE 183d, nks 173d, A pcs 163d. Poporangi: AE 193d, ADE 183d.
