"While 1 was at the confereiice I Chummed up with a Latvia woman and often used to get a lot of fun out ofher broken English," said Mrs H. Paterson, of Pahiatua, yesterday, when telling Southern Hawke's Bay Women's Institute members of ber visit to Washington last June to attend a conference for the Associated Countrywomen of the World- "One day we went on a motor trip together to a place named Hock Creek. It was n very beautiful drive, although we travelled over some very rough and mountainous country. Ag We went along we were continually passing buge bridges which tbe taxidriver would proudly tell ua had cost a million dollars or even more. At last We passed a rather small tbough extremely pretty little bridge, but the drlver reraained silent until my friend at last leaied forward and asked : 'How m*nj cenfc that one?' "
