RED CROSS SOCIETY HOLDS EVENING AT WAIPUKURAU

The members of the Waipukurau brancb of the New Zealand Red Cross Society held. a very pleasant social evening in the council rooms, Waipukurau, on Wednesday, the occasion being the enrolment of members for the home nursing classes for the ensuing year, the presentation . of medallions and certificates and a small presentation to Dr. Raymond and Dr. Fisher. During the evening the president, Mrs E. J.. Turner, in extending a welcome to those present, said th&t it was most encouraging to see so many present, which augured well for the progress of the work during the coming year. Mrs Turner said that Nurse Campbell had eonsented to conduct the classes this year, and she hoped all would show their appreciation by attending as Tegularly as possible. She the'n called upon Matron Inglis to present the certificates to the successful candidates, as follow: — First Aid, third year: Medallions to Mrs E. Mulkin, Miss M. Peterson and Miss Nancy Turner. Second year Certificates to Miises L. Neilson, May Moriarty and Burr. First-year Certificates to Misses E. Paget, M. Goodeve, N. Gumley, Major and Mrs Howlett. Home Nursing. — Home Nursing Bar: Mrs D. Urquhart, Mrs E. Malkin and Miss E. McRoberts. Medallions: Miss Nancy Turner, Miss L. Neilson. Second-^ear Certificates: Mrs F. Watson, Misses ,M. Young, M. Morihrty, V. Bennett. First-year Certificates: Misses M. Goodfeve, F. 'Malkin, E. Paget, Jean Bennett, M. Coughlan. In .presenting Dr. Raymond and Dr. Fisher .each with a small gift from the members, Mrs Turner eulogised tlie work they had both done during the past year. Matron Inglis and Dr. W. B. Fisher both spoke a few words, congratulating the successful candidates and wished the society every success for the coming year. Two amusing competitions had been arranged, and were won by Mrs Norman Norris and Mrs E. Ralph. The cosy competition was won by Mrs J. Ku zmich. A dainty supper dispensed by committee members brought tlie enjoyable evening to a close.
