MRS CATHERINE GREENAWAY
One of Napier 's early residents was lost to the town yesterday in the death of Mrs Catherine Greenaway, at the age of 83 years. The late Mrs Greenaway was well known and liked by a large section of the older residents of the district, and her death has caused deep sorrow. Born at Plockton, Rowshire, Scotland, in 1853, the late Mrs Greenaway came with her parents and their other children to New Zealand in 1871 in the Halcione, which was then making her first trip to New Zealand, and landed at Onepoto Gully. On May 27, 1872, she was married to the late Mr Richard Greenaway by Dr. Sidey, and has resided in Napier ever since. Three sisters are still alive, Mrs Mulholland, of Terrace road, Hastings Mrs A. O. McKay, Shakespeare road, Napier, and Mrs Austin, of Auckland, Her sole living brother is Mr Donald McKenzie, of Tologa Bay. Apart from these, five sons and three daughters are also left. The funeral will leave for the Napier cemetery to-morrow after noon.
