Kereru Gathering

The April meeting of the Kereru Women's Institute took place in the district hall oh Saturday last. Mrs W. Johnston, vice president, welcomed a good attendance of members and one visitor. The meeting opened with the . Institute song and Creed. The Roll Call, '"'What I did when Mother went out," was answered by all, causing much laugliter. The Institute' s first points competition for the new year, the best result from one egg, was judged by Mrs T. Harper, tbe result being : Mrs P. Sheild I, Mrs P. Walker 2, and Mrs W. A. Whyte 3. Mrs Harper also judged the best blooms, which were not so numerous as usual." However, Mrs R P. Kay gained first place, her entry being a beautiful dablia; Mrs Johnson was second with a tinted hydrangea, and Mrs O. G .Averill third with a small variety of dahlia. Mrs Andersen and Mrs Walker were hostesses for afternoon tea, after which two interesting social competitions arranged by Mrs R. Kay and Mrs P. Sheild were mucb enjoyed. Mrs Kay's competition, word-building from the word Constantinople," resulted: Mrs P. Walker 1, Mrs G. Andersen 2. Mrs Sheild' s competition, best telegram of 12 words each beginning with S, was won by Mrs R. P. Kay, Mrs P. Walker being second. A very interesting letter was read by Mrs Kay from Miss Anderson, who is on lier way to England.
