EPIDEMIC RESTRICTIONS

"A

MOTHER"

(To the Editor) 6ir. — I as a mother of three children of school age fail to se©_ the neoessity of prolonging the closing of the Ischools on account of fear of infantile paralysis when the sohools of to-day are in eveyy ease suoh splendid buildings with their inany windows and spacions rooms, Now can children attending school he more lijiely to contract tliat dread disease than the elder ones of the family who may, as often as they wish, attend closely-pacljed picture theatres ? The present epidemic has affected almost as many adults as infants, and quite a few adult qases have been fatal ; yet those Qver sixteep. are allowed to congregate in, crowds anywhere and everywhere. Anyone may b© a possible "carrjer", and what's to prevent a person from bringing hom© the germ to tbos© under Sixteen ? All thia business of prohibiting some functions and aHowing others is a farce and I. with quite a number of others, entirejy agree and am in thorough sympathy with the Tikokino Sports Ulub.

The seeretary of that olub stated that, even when they were willing to stop children from attending, perroissiop to go on with the sports was refused, and it is said that quite a number of little children were at the Waipukurau Races on Saturday. Doesn't that, as well as many other instances of the sam© kind of thing, prove the uselessness of any further closing of good healthy school buildings? I am as careful over the welfare of my children as it is possible to be, yet would have po fear whatever m sepding them back to school to-morrow, becanso achools are no more dangerous than any. other place where crowds are gathered. Thanking you for space permitted. Yours. eto..
