DAVIS CUP MATCH
Australians Will Play U.S. at Forest Hills PROTEST UNAVAILING (Received 5, 8.45 a.m.) NEW YORK, April 4. The United States Lawn Tennis Association executive committee meeting listened to the petition of the Philadelphia group, but again confirmed Forest Hills as the venue for the Davis Cup match against Australia. It announced that it was technically unable to change the situation, and that the best interests of the public would be served at Forest Hills since it had the fullest aeeommOdation. The former Australian Davis Cup player, Mr Norman Brookes, on the eve of sailing for Europe, inspected the Forest Hills courts and, in a letter to the Unite'd States Lawn Tennis Association, he saidii "I am mote than satisfied with the care and attention they are receiving. They should be in excellent condition by the time the cup matches against Australia are played, and are suitable in every respect for an international Davis Cup contest. The practice court also appeared to be in similar condition and should give our playerB every opportunity of getting into their best form." A eablegram received from Philadelphia last week stated that Mr Samuel Collam, former president of the United States Lawn Tennis Association, in a statement critieising the organisation for centring important tournaments in New York, declared: "The Australian Davis Cnp authorities are deeply coneerned at the choice of Forest Hills, Sproule, Crawford, and McGrath aTO unanimous in condemning Forest Hills. " They had declared that the court surfaces were inferior.
