WELSH SOCIAL WORKER PAYS VISIT TO NAPIER

Recently arrivod in New Zealand is Mrs Michael, of Swan sea, South Wales, •who is on a visit to her brother, Mr T. E. James, and Mrs James, of Lyall Bay, Wellington. Mrs Micliael js a prominent social worker in Wales, and is beloved in her home town of Swansea, where her work in the distressed areas is deeply appreciated. She is still president of, and for many years has been the mov-. ing figure in, the Strand Christian Mission, wliose work is among the women, boys and girls of the poorer classes. The Castle Unemployed Centre (uien's) in Swansea find her their ideal presi•dent and she is distinguisked in Wales as being the only wo/nan allowed to visit the prisons. Last year she was an appointed delegate to the International Social Reform Congress held in Berlin. With her brother and sister-in-law Mr and Mrs T. E. James, Wellington, Mrs Michael was in Napier for a short time 011 Saturday and hopes to return later for a l'onger stay. The party left in the late afternoon for Wairoa, Tauranga and Rotorua
