TOTALISATOR UP 100 PER CENT.

Dannevirke Club Meeting at Waipukurau HACK CUP TO SOHO Held at Waipukurau under the management of the Waipukurau Jockey Club, the Dannevirke Racing Club's autumn meeting, for which the totalisator showed an increase of 100 per cent., was most successful. Very satisfactory fields competed, and some excellent racing w&sr provided in which there were some close and exciting finishe*. There was one dead-heat. The principal event, the Waipukurau Hack Cup, was won by Mr G. D. Beatson with Soho, who repeated his Easter Monday performance on the same course. The presentation of the cup was afterwards made to Mr Beatson by Mr F. Armstrong, president of the club, who congratulated the winner upon the splendid race ruu by his horse. In appreciation of his fine horsemanship, Mr Beatson presented the cup to Percy Atkins, rider of Soho. The organisation for the meeting was complete in every detail, and was capably carried out by the responeibie officials. The judge, Mr A. V. O'Brien, gave every satisfaction with his decisions, and Mr W. Price, the starter, got the fields away splendidly. The totalisator handlect 26084 for the day, as against £3013 for the previous meeting, held in December, 1935. Hunter 's Morn was stood behind thc j field, but onco they were let go lie quickly shot through to lie in behind Nereus from Mohua, Hinepit and Jay Bird. Racing across the top the Ieading horses held their positions, with Hunter 's Morn going to the front and the favourite beginning to move up a little. As they turned into the straight Hunter 's Morn led from Nereus, Mohua, Fossicker and Jay Bird. As they raced towards the post, Hunter 's Morn, in the leader's role, had the field well in hand* and looked likely to win by a small margin. A short distance off the post Hinepit flashed up with a surprise xun to cross the line on terms with Hunter 's Morn for a dead-heat. Nereus, who had kept close on Hunter 's Morn from the home turn, was three-quarters of a length away third. Royal Solo was fourth. Time, 1.15. JUVENILE HANDICAP Of £75; 5 furlongs. 1 FELICITATION — Mr P, F. Wall's br.f.., 2yrs., by Siegfried — Dissertation, 9.1* (0. Sheilds) 1 3 Airini — Mr J. D. Todd'e br.f., 2yrs-., 8.6 (H. Racing across the top, the favourite was still clear of Airini from Winitangi, who had gone up well from Golden Memory and Mary Rose, the remainder beifig bunched. The favourite led into the straight and was never challenged in the mn home to win comfortably by two lengths from Airini, Winitangi being third a length and a-half farther away. Money Raid " was fourth. Airini 's rider dropped his whip coming into the straight. Time, 1.2. Blue Garter was first to show out, but after a short distance Wnatelanu took the lead, which was only temporary. Gasman was the next leader, from Wasteland, Blue Garter, and Passion Flower. In the run across the top and into the straight there was little change in the order, and a great race to the post took place. A furlong cfi£ the post the field was practically in line, and at this stage Gasman dropped back. Fifty yards from the post Passion Flower drew away slightly, and in a splendid finish prevailed by a neclr from Blue Garter, with Plato a simila" small margin away third. From a good start Mahaanui was away best from Trailer, Golden Time, Master Hector and Recitation. At the end of a furlong Grey Molly had gone to the front from 1 Mahaanui, Tractile and Trailer. At the far turn Golden Time moved up quickly to lie in behind the two leaders, and as they turned into the straight Grey Molly was sighted first from Mahaanui, Golden Time and Recitation. After they Had straightened up, Golden Timo made a fast run, then Agog was seen making a big effort, closing in on the leaders. Tractile took up the running from Grey Molly, and in an exciting finish held off a determined challenge by Agog to win by a head, Trailer being a length away third. Mahaanui was fourth.
