"Grow More Grain and Rely on Government"
(Bv Telegraph
CHRISTCHURCH Last Night. A meeting of the electoral committee of' United Wheatgrowers (N.Z.), Ltd., was held to-day when the foilowing resolutions were carxied unanimously :-r(1) "That after hearing t.he full facts about the price fixed for wheat, this meeting of the electoral committee of United Wheatgrowers (N.Z.), Ltd., exjpresses its confidence in the direetors {and its appreciation of their work. jWhile fully recognising the high costs (Of production and other difficulties confroiiting the industry, the electoral committee urges upon fellow wheatgrowers the necessity to grow wheat sufficient for the Doininion's needs and ■to sow as large an area aB possible with every confidence that the Government will, at an early date, xeview the price for 1938 to mcet increased costs." (2) "This meeting expresses to tho Minister for Industries and Commerce its appreciation for his sympathetie attitude and his endeavours to assist the industry, in face of strong opposition and desires to draw the Minister 's at•tention to the increasing diffieult\es un•der which wheat is produced through the scarcity of experienced labour and •the almost impossible position of many farmer's wives through inability to secure domestic help. This, in addition to the ever increasing costs of production, tend to make wheatgrowing unattractive at present prices and a desreased area for the coming season is probable uhless some further encouragement is given t.o growers."
