WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

Fernhill Group The members of the Fernhill Women 's Institute met on Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Daviea, the newly elected I president, welcomed all members and also made reference to the good. work done during the past year by Mrs. Craven, who had fulfilled the duties of president during the previous year. Three new members were welcomed. Mrs. Finch and Miss K. Clark were appointed delegates to the annual meet-. ing of the Northern Hawke's Bay Federation to be held in Napier on April 28. Several members bought poppies in jaid of the Returned Soldiers ' Association 's appeal to help their worthy cause. A weleome was exxended to Mrs. Burge, from Twyford Institute, who ,gave a demonstration on smocking. This was followed with keen interest by all members. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs. Burge. Many helpful hinta were given during a roll call on the uses of vinegar. Mesdames Burge and Tait judged the competitions, which resulted: Best bloom grown in own garden: Miss K. Clark (dahia) 1, Mrs.. Finch (cactus dahlia) 2, Mrs. Osborne (pink rose) 3. Jar of mustard tickle: Mrs. Osborne 1, Mrs. Davies 2, Mrs. Griffiths 3. The potato competition were disappointing. Mrs. Hildreth had the heaviest weights and Mrs. A. Taylor was second. The potatoes were sold afterwurds. A refreshing cup of tea was served by Miss K. Clark, who was hostess'for the afternoon.
