Cause of 13 Deaths at Wonthaggi JURY'S FINDING (Received 3, 8.45 a.m.) MELBOURNE, April 2. A finding of accidental death coupled with one of negligence shown by the management of the Stato coal mine, was returned by a jury this evening at the inquest on the Wonthaggi disaster, in which 13 were killed on February 13. The jury found negligence by the management for not having the mine inspected on the day of the disaster in the same manner a9 on ordinary working days. The verdict added that the jury could not decide where ihe explosion siarted, nor by whom the naked light which ignitedd the gas was carried. For more eflicient oper ation the jury recommended that the jainefield be controlled both by a general manager and a mine manager. Three hundred residents of Wonthaggi waited anxiously for an hour and a half outside the courthouse for the jury's return. The jury found that the expjogion was caused by a naked Ught contacting with methane gas, but the evidence did not show bv whom the light was carried. There was no negligence on tho part of mine official*.
