British Expedition to Touch at Lyttelton CONTACT BY WIRELESS

(Eeceived 2, 12.15 p.m.) LONDON, April 1. Mr E. F. Walker, leader of a proposed British expedition to the Antarctic, returned from Norway, where he provisionaliy selected a three-masted schooner of 470 tons at present trading in Arctic waters. Mr Walker intends to rename it the Shackleton. | He has received 1300 applications ' from women, but does not intend to accept any, believing that women would not stand up to the conditions oyer such a long period. The expedition will number 32, including the ship's crew and scientiflc staff. It will be away for two years, departing in June and expects to arrive at ite last port of call, Lyttelton, New Zealand, in November. After spending a month there the expedition will proceed to the Polar regions, dropping one party at Wood Bay and another at'Eoss Bay. It will returr to Lyttelton for the winter.
