Annual Meeting at Waipukurau Elects Officers

WAIPUKURAU, Last Nighis. The annual meeting of the Waipukurau* Ladies' Golf Club was held on Wednesday evening. The president, Mrs • B. Broad, presided over an excellent attendance. The report and hal-ance-sheet, presented by the secretary, Miss M. Stabler, showed that the ejub had had a successfut year It was decided to open the reason cn the first Wednesday after the official opening, when a four-ball match is to be played. The annual t'ournament will be held the th'rd week in August. Mrs A. L. McCormick recomniended that a lecture he g)iven by one of the officials of the club on the etiquebte of golf. The following officers were eleoix.d: Prdsident, Miss M. Johnstone j "vicepresidents, Mesdames E. Broad and A. B. McCormick ; captain, Miss J. Speedyj committee, Mesdames H- Butler, S. Train, Misses E. Butler, N. Main, M. Riddell, A. Roodj secretary, Mrs D. Urquhart ; handicapper, Miss M. Stabler j programme committee, Mesdames D. Urquhart, H. Jlutler and Miss Main. The secretary'a report for the year stated that there was a large number of neW members. As the standkrd of handicapping throughout Jfew Zealand had been shown to be considerably L-elow its correct standard of the Ladies' Gqlf Union in Britain and elsewhero, a gen-

eral revision of its scratch scores of the courses in this country had to be considered. The ecratch score allotted for the course was 71, thus making it hard for players to reduce or even play to their handieaps. Special thauks were due to Miss Speedy and Mr Pat Peacock for the success of the one-ciay cournament on the King's Birthday Miss Main won the senior championship and Miss A. Tareha was runn«T-up. Miss Train won the junior c'lautplouship, Mrs Ward being runne*-up. Thanks were estended to the following who donated trophies: Mrs E. Broad, Mrs A. McCormick, Mrs H. Butler, Mrs F. Wilson, Mrs ToHemache, Mrs J. B. A'Deane, Mrs Muncaster ,Mrs I. W. N. Mackie, M».s F. Hewitt, Miss A. Rood, Mr A. M. Johnstone and Mr L. Beachen.
