Canterbixry Wins Shield for Sixth Time

CHRISTCHURCH, Last Nlght. 1 Can'ter'bury University College won the New Zealand University tourna- j ment shield for the sixth successive year in the annual tournament concluded to-day. With only the lawn tennis events to be completed, Canter- * bury slready had a useful lead in points for the tournament shield and it practically acooped the pool in to-day 's tennis. Three of the five titles were won by Canterbury and there is an allCanterbury final in yet another event. Only in the. mixed doubles has another college (Victoria) any chance of scoring points. Two points are allotted for each of the five titles and one for the winner of the tennis* cup. With two tennis points still in doubt and another to be allotted for an uncompleted athletic event, the position in the competition for the tournament shield is: Canterbury 29, Otago 18£, Victoria 16|, Auckland 8.
