WAIPUKURAU RACES S. Anderson Rides Four Winners T0TE FIGURES UP With the totalisator tumover showing a satisfactory inerease, the Waipukurau Jockey Club's autumn meeting, held yesterday, was most succeesful. The weather was fine and the course in spjendid order. The large attendance of the public was treated to some excellent sport, and the meeting passed off without any unfortunate ineident. The arrangements for the day were all that could be desired and were capably carried out by the various officials. Mr A. V. O'Brien, the judge, gave every satiefaction with his decisions, the placings in some of the events being deitermined by very small margins. The principal event on the programme, the Waipukurau Cup, was won by Mr G. D. Beatson, of Hastings, with Soho, who managed to get up in the last stride or two to beat Tareha, who ka.d set the paee for the race. In making the presentation, the president of the club, Mr Percy Wall, said that the club was deeply jndebted to those owners who had kept the sport going during the very lean times. Mr "Beatson wa s one of those owners who had done much to carry the sport along, and it was pleasing to see him win this important event. S. Anderson was the most successful horseman, having four winning mounts. A feature of the meeting was the jrunning of the evepts to the scheduled times, and very little difficulty was experienced with th.e various field* at the barrier. The totalisator handled £8484 for the day, as against £7893 10/- for the sarne day last year, an inerease of £590 10/-. RohlifF), 5 Winitangi 8.7 (B. Stowe). The field broke away in a good line from the xiso of the tapes. Asset was first to show out from Grey Molly, Winitangi and Parry. After a furlong King's Hope rau up to take charge from Asset, Grey Molly and Parry. Jn the run across the top Asset weut up to the favourite, and the pair were on even terms as they entered the straight, with Grey Molly and Winitangi together well placed. After they straightened up for the post Grey Molly went through the leaders to run the last furlong unchallenged, winning comfortably by a length and a-half from Asset. Parry was two lengths farther back for third, just beating King's Hope by a head. Time, 1.16 1-5. HATUMA HACK HANDICAP Of £85; 5 furlongs. 3 HUNTER 'S MOEN— Mr F, Goodman'a eh.g., 5yrs., by Hunting Song — Tino Atua, 9.2 (S. Anderson) 1 2 Tycoon — Mr E. A. McNaughton). From a very straggling start Tycoon got aw&y best, but the favourite quickly took up the running from Golden Time. After a furlong the favourite was clear of Golden Time from Tycoon, Hunting Spy and .Vienna. In the run across the top Vienna ran in behind the leaders, with Quake well placed. There was no fupther ehange in the order a? they turned into the straight, and in the run to the post ! Hunter 's Mom went on to win easily by fiye lengths from Tycoon, with Quake two lengths farther back third. Vienna was fourth. Time, 1.2. Racing down the back, Lucullus Lad still had charge, with Master Hector in second place from Tractile, Agog, Trailer and Skyway. There was little change in the order in the run across the top, with Lucullus Lad well clear of Master Hector. Lucullus Lad was sighted first as they turned into the straight. Racing to the post, Lucullus Lad steadily drew away from the field to win comfortably from Agog, who mafie the best Of the running from the others, getting up tO fieat Tractile by a short head. Rohlic), 5 Lady Wessex 7.7 (B. Stowe). Tareha was best away from the barrier xise to lead, as they passed the stand, from Passion Flower, Plato, Soho and Lady Wessex. Going out of the straight, Tareha opened up a gap of six lengths, with Passion Flower heading the remainder. Down the back stretch there was no change jn the order, but as they ran across the top the favourite ran into second position from Plato and Passion Flower. Tareha was well clear a* they turned into the straight, and after they settled down Soho and Plato and Passion Flower steadily closed on the leader. A furlong from the post the favourite looked as if he would quickly overhaul Tareha, who, however, held on surprieingly well. A hundred yards off the post Passion Flower came away with a great dash on the xails, but Tareha confinued to hold out and Soho only just managed to catch him on the post, winning by the bare margin of a half-head. Passion Flower also fought out the finish, being only a neck away for third. Plato was fourth.. Time, 2.7 3-5., PUKEORA HANDICAP Of £80; 5 furlongs. 3 ALRINI — Mr J. D. From a good line when the barrier went up Tullamore started best from a number of slow beginners and led out from Felicitation and Airini. In the run acroas the top the order was Airini, Felicitation, Mary Rose, Tullamore, Golden Memory and Enfin. As they turned into the straight Airini was sighted first, being closely altended by Felicitation, Mary Rose and Tullamore. In the mn to the post Airini continued to stage a good race and managed to hold out to win by a length from Felicitation, who finished fast a length and a-half in front of Tullamore, Mary Rose was fourth. Once they had straightened up Nereus was soon through the field to take the lead and to go on and win easily by three lengths from the favourite, who just beat Mahaanui by a nose for second place. From a good start Lavina had the best of the early running to lead from Quake, Gasman and Tycoon. As they ran across the top Lavina, Quake (who had moved up) and Gasman were in a line, with Wasteland close handy. Near the turn into the straight Gasman went to the front tq lead into tfie straight from Lavina, Wasteland, Quake and Padishali. A great race to the post eneued, and in an exciting finish Layina prevailed against Gasman by a head, with Wasteland tliree-quarters of a length away third. Tycoon was fourth. Time, 1.14.
