Ormondville Children Entertain Parents and Friends

ORMONDVILLE, Last JNigiit. On Wednesday afternoon the defor« red prize-giving was held at the public school. Mr H. R. Newling, chairman of the committee, made a brief opening address, saying that the good attendance of parents and friends was very encouraging. He introduced Mr Smalley, headmaster, who spoke to the parents, appealing for their co-opera-tion and help. There was now no proflciency examination to work for, but the standard expected must he maintained, and with the parents' help it shoula he possible to do this. The schoolroom was prettily decorated with flowers, and along the walls was a frieze of crayon work by the tiny tots, which showed a marvellous amount of imaginative design, coupled with evidence of much colour sense. Cut paper figurete were also entertaining. Afternoon tea was handed round and was much appreciated. The sweets were the gift of the chairman, Mr T. J. Newling. A special feature in the decorationa was a model garden, with a Noah's Ark ais the house, surrounded by treeg and lawns with a brown stone wall. This was the work of the infants. The following contributed very pleas-' ing items: Senior and junior pupils, Ceeil Williams, Ian Benbow, Kathleen Hutcheson, Maurice Forwardi, Valda Brown, Ailsa Tra)sk, Fay Deadman, Mollie Harvey, Frank Forward, Valerie Cload, Zelda Trask , Ray Hewald, Pam Howes, Pat Hardie, Maurice Berkahn, Walter Bolton, Zillah Harvey, Ronnie Deadman, Ian Larsen, Valerie l Emberson, Douglas Bolton, Bobbie Hewald, Ian Dodunski, Zeta Smalley. Mrs Newling subsequently handed the prizes to each child, and Mr Newling handed each a bag of sweets. --The special prize for good conduct and haTd work went to Olive Anderson, and the dux medal to Miriam Howes. Mrs Newling (spoke appreciatively of the work of the teachers, and called for cheers for them, which were heartily given.
