■ CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. j Conditions were unpleasant for early work at Riccarton this morning. Until six o'clock the weather was clear, but soon afterwards fog descended, and trainers were unable to see their horses at work. The fog lasted-more than an hour, after which it gradually dispersed and conditions were favourable after bre$kfast. Some horses went on the' plough, which was in good order though a trifle heavy, but the galloping was done on the outside of the course proper.
Wild Chase was well clear of Top Notch ,at the end of nine furlongs run in 1.58 . 2-5. This was the only gallop before breakfast that could be timed. Lazybones and Mulatto were together {at the end of five furlongs, Haughty Winner being well clear of Day Dress, while" Mob Rule ran along singly. Fiord was several lengths in front of Royal Chief after six furlongs. Paper' Slipper did useful work on the plough, where Lofty and Merry March did a similar task together. Emissary sprintod up the back, while Sunbeam and Miracle ran home together from the half-mile post. J. S. Shaw restri6te.d his team to three-quarter pace work on the plough. Cyrillian . went seven furlongs, and Yale, Garonne and Heloise six furlongs 1 separately. Lustral and Primate were partners over three furlongs, Mercenary following alone. After Breakfast. | Grey Honour sprinted half a mile up the back in 51secs., Joyous and Ciribinbin taking 38 3-5secs. for three furlongs. Sovereign Lady and Chidden wl&re on terms at the end of a mile. in 1.45, the first half in 51 3-5secs. Gonnis and Cocksure were together over half a mile in 50secs. Swordstick was a length in fro.nt • of Poly.dora at the end of a mile in 1.43 -4-5. Grange Bud and Dictate did six furlongs in 1.17 1-5. Ponty was in front of Travenna and Palady over seven furlongs in 1.31 2-5 — a useful gallop with good weights up. Coneertpit'Ch and Argentic covered a mile in 1.41 3-5, the first half in 49 4-5secs. They carried light weights, but it was a very good gallop. Happy Night and Bonnie Agnes took 1.6 for five furlongs. Love Affair -and Dividend did half a mile in 50 2-5secs. Monastic and Sky Pilot took 1.48 for a mile. Great Empire had Dropped Catch for a mate over six furlongs in 1.18 3-5. Reeolleetion did seven furlongs in 1.33 1-5, Arrowin joining in over the last four in 52sees. Wino led Knoekfin all the way over a six-furlong spin in 1.17 3-5, Glenavon and Gresham doing similar- time. Rebel Chief took 1.4 for five furlongs. Epris did a mile in 1.42 1-5, the first half in 51 l-5secs. Epic joined in over the last .seven furlongs, but was beaten off. Rousseau aud Jolly Beggar took 1.33 . 3-5 for seven furlongs. Gold Boa did five furlongs in 1.1 3-5, tho last four in 49secs. She carried a fair weight, and it was a brilliant effort. Silver Slipper and Nolana took 1.4 1-5 for five furlongs, Screamer and Irish Fiddle following in 1.3 3-5, the last frmr in 50 4-5secs. Pink Abbey and Mazzini did half a mile up the back in 51 3-5secs. Wiilie Win and Tunneller broke away at the
mi'le post, and after being together over the first half in 51secs., Willie Win drew away to win very .easily in 1.45 3-5. Silver Sight took 1.33 for seven furlongs. Manotho did a mile in 1.47. Lisnacree sprinted half a mile in 49 3-5secs., going very well. • The Jiunpe,r3. Loyal Amyuora (J. Murlitt) jumpod the brush hurdles well, though without much pace. Hunting Bag (Stove) and Palinary (A. Russell) went out to schooi over the brush hurdles. Palmary loftt ground at the first and blundered at the seeond, losing his rider. Russell received a severe shaking, besides injury to the left aTm, whieh the horso trod on. Hunting Bag went over the obstacles again at a fast pace by himself, while Palmary (A. Stove) subsequently jumped them safely at & fair pace* I
