Man Who Issued False Cheques OBTAINED CHANGE IN CASH Six months ' imprisonment on each of two charge^of false pretences was the sentexxee imposed by Mr J. Miller, S.M., nn Arthur McKeener, of Napier, labourer, in the Napier Magistrate's Court this morning. The sentences are to be cojlcurrent. 'Accused was charged with obtaining an overcoat valued at £1 17/6 and £13 2/6 in money from Henry Gair, of Waipukurau, draper, by means of a false cheque, and with falsely repreBenting to A.- G. Mathieson, of Port Ahuriri, hotelkeeper, that a cheque for £15 was a good one. Detective-Sergeant H, Nuttall, after the accused had pleaded guilty to bdth Charges, said that the accused obtained two bjank ccheques. He filled ijx one of them and bought with it an overcoat and obtained £13 2/6 in ckange. At the Crown Hotel, Port Ahuriri, he bad in-d-U'Ced the. Iic6nsee to change a cheque for £15. "For the last seven years he has not been tip for anything of a very serious nature," Mr Nuttall contintied. "He ie ; ordinarily a hard-working man when he is not drinking, and I think that if he left drink alone we should never see him again. ' ' An order was made that a sum of 1 £10 4/- in the poseession of the accused should be divided equally between tho two people from whom the money had been obtained,
