Threat of General U.S. Strike EXTRA POLICE ON DUTY NEW YORK, March 22. ' Roving bands of girl piekets closed 4 nearly a hundred stores in Providence. •The C.I.O. .threat of a general shutdown is approaching reality. Extra police came on duty when disorder was reported. Sit-down strikes were again debated m the House of Representatives at Washington. Mr Hoffman asserted that the motor strikes would be quickly ended if Preeident Roosevelt would instruct Governors Murphy and Miss Frances Perkins to tell the sit-down strikers .to leave the plants.
