ONE BIG UNION FOR FARMERS
"United Front Would Carry Wright" HAWKE'S BAY PLANS "As a united front we can carry weight politically and otherwise," said the president of the Hawke's Bay Provincial District of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, Mr C. R. Edgecombe, in supporting a proposal that a move should be initiated to have a federatiou of primary producers of the Dominiou. The proposal, which was raised at the c'ebruary meeting of the union, was referred to. all branches in Hawke 's Bay. The replies received were considered at a meeting of the executive yesterday; when a resolution was passed favouring a proposal to ascertain the attitude of the various primary producers' organisations, including orehardists, dairy and sheep farmers and apiarists, with a view to setting up machinery for the formation of such an organisation. It was pointed out that while the proposal was as yet concerned only with Hawke 's Bay it was hoped to make the movement a Dominion-wide organisation. All bodies concerned would have delegates on the federation and would meet at regular intervals to'take steps necessary to meet any position which might arise. Delegates at the meeting were unanimously in favour of the proposal and agreed that at present primary producers lacked a central organisation and were divided into numerous associations aDd societies covering different phases o.t agricultura) production. With a central body they would be enabled to speak with one voice and press home any claims and domands they might wish to make with confldence that proper consideration would be afforded them. It was emphasised that such an organisation would be independent of the Farmers' Union.
