Waipukurau Club's Meteting

. WAIPUKURAU, This Day. The annual general meeting of the j Waipukurau Rugby Football dub wae held last night, Mr V. L. King presiding over a good attendance. The following new members were elected : — Messrs K. Higgins, W. Benson and W. Walker. Mr A. C. Holms, commenting on the balance-sheet, said that he would like to congratulate the secretary, Mr J. Durno, the treasurer, Mr C. A. Gallagher, Mr N, Little and other s who were responsible for the raising of funds by dances and competitions. Old accounts dating back to 1931 and totalling £22 7/- had been paid off, and in addition the club had a credit balance of £8 10/3, putting the club once more on its feet. The president, Mr V. L. King, announced his intention of donating a new football to the club, and this , was received with acclamation. The election of officers resulted : — • Patron, Mr H. M. Christie, M.P. ; president, Mr V. King; vice-presidents, Messrs P. Bridgeman, G. Butler, A. D. Gibson, J. McDonald, G. Davey, F. Davey, F. Gore, J. D. Ormond, jnr., A. O. Holms, H. A. Scherf, I. W. N. Mackie, C. A, Gallagher, F. Gay, G. Oliver, O. L. Crooks, A. L. McCormiek, P. Barrett, J. Lovett, snr., W. Adams, A. M. Johnstone ; secretary, Mr M. Lane ; hon. treasurer, Mr V. L. King; management committee, Messrs N. Little, T. Ferguson, A. Chapman, M. Heisse ; club captain, Mr P. Bridgeman; delegates to sub-union, Messrs A. 0. Holms, N. L. King, C. A. Gallagher; delegate to management committee of sub-union, Mr O. A. Gallagher; coach and selector, Mr M. Heisse, to be assisted by Mr P. Bridgeman and team captain; junior coach and selector, Mr D. Logan. The subscription for the ensuing year was fixed at: Senior 7/6, junior 5/-/ It was decided to send a letter of appreciation to Mr J. Durno i'or services rendered while secretary of the club. Mr M. Heisse said that if he was to act as coach he would insist on players tuming up to practice regularly, and that they should take an interest in their appearance on the field in their club games. It was decided to co-operate with th© Higih School Old Boys' Club, and approach the Power Board for an estimate for th© erection ot one or two spotlights in Russell Park to facilitate traimng at night. The chairman was instructed to discuss the matter with thc Old Boys' club. The first practice night was fixed for Wednesday, March 31, 5.15 p.m. and trom then on, every Tuesday at 7.30 p.m. The following social committee was elected:— Messrs N. Little, M. Laue, (J. A. Gallagher, T. Fergnson, N. l{os=, T. Davey, C. Watson, and Jim Lovott. The committee to act in conjunetion with the management eominittee. Annual Renort. The annual report read as follow:— Two teams, one senior and one junior, entered in their respective classes, and although they clid not meet with as mueh suceess as expeeted, they met all fixtures. The> seniors were runnersup in the annual seven-aside competition and the juniors won all their games and wero presented with football caps, which they have cauBe to b»
proud of . The senior team were also the runners-up in the Central Hawke'e Bay Rugby championship. Mr Richard Davey's cups for the most improved back and- forward in the seniors was won by Ray Crappe and B. Pederson . respectively, and to these players I have to oft'er my congratulations. Mr J. Hindman presented a silver cup to the most improved inember m the juniors, and this was won by W, Olliver, whom we congratulate. Messrs V. King and F. Watson presented the club with footballs. It is regfretted that we have lost our popular secretary, Mr J. Durno, who has been transferred. to Hastings, where he has joined the be'nedicts, and I feel sure that all members will offer him their hearty congratulaiions. Last year we received many. new players into the club, but most of these have now left the district, and I would like to impress upon members to endeavour to obtain new players to taka their places Touehing on th© financial side, I am pleased to state that after paying all back debts extending as far as 1931, we show a credit balaiice at the bank ot £5 7/9. This, I feel, is due to the good work of the social committee.
