SHEEP-DOG TRIALS
Petane Club The Petane Shcep Dog Trial Club began its annual sheep-dog trials yesterday on ground kindly lent by Mrs Frank Lopdell, Eskdale. The entries were well up to the average of former years, and the standard of work was high. In the first event, Class I., longhead, only a quarter of a point separated the two leading dogs. The weather was fine, and, there was a good attendance of eollie enthusiasts and visitors. The honorary secretary, Mr. S. C. Cullwick, and a busy committee kept the programme going smoothlv from start to finsh, but it was late in the afternoon before Class I. was, finished. The trials are being eontinued today. SPECIALS. F. Lopdell's eup, C. Ruddenklau; Williams and Kettle's trophy, J. Hammond ; Dalgety and Co's trophy, Bob, Richmond; E. Hyde's trophy, D. Williams. The annual dog-trial ball was held in ihe Eskdale Hall last eveningi. The hall was crowded, and the whoJe arrangements were all so well carried out that the ball was voted one of the best and most enjoyable yet held by the club.
