PRICES TOO GOOD AT DUNEDIN Rise in Crosshreds Sensational RANGE OF PRICES
(By Telegrnnb -
. DUNEDIN, Last Night, The third wool sala i'or the season was held to-day when approximately 30,700 bales were offered. The wool opened up in excellent condition, the crossbreds particularly, whioh comprised about half of the ofEering, beicg the best show seen in Dunedin for some seasons. In sympathy with recent saies in> other centres. the demand was well dis-. ' tributed amongst all sections of thdj ..trade, Bradford, the Continent, America. .and Japan " compoting freely, whilst, ilocal mills gave good support on com-. iparatively few lots of super and flnei jlialfbreds and Merinos suitable to theiri jrequirements. All grades of wool show-' ,;ed a further firming tendency, and ifchej 1 [aale to-day was easily the best sale heldj in the Dominion this season. Comparedj Iwith the last Dunedin sale erossbreds! Jshowed a sensational rise, which on thej | average must be fully 2d to 3d per lb.,i land prices were the highest seen for! many years. Numerous lines of mediumi Romney wools sold in the vicinity of 19d, with finer quality from 20d .to 21d, whilst crossbred hogget wool of meCTffih quality in certain cases sold to 23d.' Fine wools were eagerly competed for> I chiefly by the Continent, and Whilst J prices for halfbreds were very satis- | factory, the same advance as for crossI bredd was not, obtained, and ,the mar- | ket may be quoted a ld higher than the i ' last Dunedin sale for these wools. Local mills were keen buyers for super half- ' breds and the top price for the Sale was 2Sid. Merino sold to 24§d. The • • Continent, particularly France, was very strong on pieces and bellies and these ■ also showed a substantial advance on j ,the last saies' prices. Beveral lots of Ihalfbred necks sold to 2d and some exjtieme prices were paid for fine cross'bred necks and pieces. Needless to say, passings at to-day 's prices were few and far between and almost a complete clearance was made at auction. j Range of Prices. « Following is the officjal range of I prices:—
