After prayer and a welcome to Mr Kearse, the latcer spoke on. the evils of the drink ^uestion. It was decided to open the iiand of Hope in April. Mrs Stacy gained applause for her recital of Fay inchfaun's poem, "The* Daily Interview". The Bring and Buy tahle was a. success and the gathering closed , with the Benediction. Takapau. Golf. A meetihg of the members of the 'Takapau' Golf Club was held on Friday to go into the matter of holding a ! golf ball. . The president, Major McDonnell, presided over a good attendance. " It was decided to hold a ball on! April T4 and' a Strong;comn?itfcee was set up to attend to the function. The %uhscriptibn - was "fixed at a popular price. The .victimis .were conveyed. to Dannevirke where it was . found that Mr Loft had susfaiued ' a f ractured leg • and num.erous abrasions, and his daughter had a leg broken, Hand Cut by Axe. While playing in the yard, Dawn, daughter of- Mr and Mrs Bert Anderson, of South Norsewood, badly cut her fingers with an axe. She was taken to the Dannevirke public hospital, where it was found neceslsary to ainputata part of one ' finger, which was practically severed. She is still an inmate of the hospital, but' is progressing favourably. - ,
Ormondville Halh The quarterly meeting 'of th'e Ormondville Hall Committee was presided over byMr G. Chapman. Mrs'O. Baines was elecled to the -committee. It was decided to appoint another trustee in the place of the late Mr H. M. Sanders, this being left . to the existing .trustees, Messrs H. 0. Baines and A. F. Bayliss. The ques'tion . of Vlining the hall was brought forward, and.a Sub-committee of three, 'MeSsrs . G. Chajnnan, . J. Packer and A. Port, was appointed, a report to be furnished' to the committee 1 at' an early date. ' Ormondville School. . At the last. meeting of the .Ormondville School Committee there was a full attendance presided over by Mr H. J. Newling. The committee took this ehance of extending a hearty welcome to Mr P. Smalley, the new headmaster. Accounts amounting to £6 13/- were passed for paymont. The scheme for pxoviding milk forjthe school children was diseussed, and it~ was: decided to Jeave this matter , in abeyance .untiPinquiries have .been made to ascertain how many children would take milk if available. The head teacher reported that the school roll is now 48, which is an increase on last year's roll. The prize distribution, which wa's held -over on account of the infantile paralysis danger, has now been arranged for Wennesday noxt, at 2 p.m. Waipawa Plunket Society. At the monthly meeting of the Waipaoa Plunket Society there were present; Mesdames Harker (president), Preston, E. Bishop, Towers, Petersen, E. Bibby, Eagle, Bryant, Pepperell, Murray, and the seeretary, Mrs Spicer. Mr E. Bibby 's resignation as a member of the advisory committee was aecepted with regret. He is to receive a letter of appreeiation. Owihg to the infantile paralysis and the unsottled weather, the gymkhana will be abandoned this year, and a ball and bridge party" held in April. Bachetors and Spinsters. A well-attended meeting of bachelors and spinsters at Waipawa considered arrangements for the sccoiid ahm»al ball, whieh it is proposed to hold in May. The seeretary was authorised to make inquiries regarding an orchostra, and to engage the theatre. Home and School League. Dancing and cards were provid-ea at the Home and School Leaguc's lirst social for the year, held in the prinniry schbol, Waipulcurau. Music was provided by Mesdames J. Lovett and W. Gaston and Mr S. Bryce. A euehre tournament for the , non-dancors was won by 'Mrs E. W. Taylor, -with Mrs T. Thomson second, in the women 's section, and" Mr F. Tinney,-with Miv F. Burfield second, in the men's section. Supper was provided by the ladies'
committee. Those responsible for the succes* of the function were Mesdames L. Eenner, B. McLean, H. De Lacey, H. Martin, Meslsrs H. Martin (chairman), C. F. Haycock, V. King, J. White and M. Kobertson, Dannevirke Lodge Meets. The fortnightly meeting of the Juvenile branch of the Loyal Abbotsford Lodge, Manchester Unity Oddfellows, was presided over by N.G. Bro. • F. Squires. There was an attendance of abont 60 members. Three new members were initiated. After the meeting, a concert, organised by Sister N. •Fox, was presented, Bro. Evan Meta acting as M.C. A farewell was extended to Bros. Eex and Bruce Fissenden, who are shortly leaving Waipawa, and musical honours were accorded. Licensing Committee. The quarterly meeting of the Waipawa Licensing Committee was held, when there were present: Messrs C. H. Critchley (chairman), W. G. Bryce, H. T. Limbrick, and J. Wharmby. The police xeports were satisfactory and there were no complaints. The transfer of the licenee of thp Junction Hotel, Norsewood, from Frank Newrick to Edward Oliver Dunn wate approved Ongaonga Residents Farewelled. Mr and Mrs Tierney, who are leaving Ongaonga after over 30 yeaxs ; xesidence •tliere, were farewelled in the hall at a well-attended function. Ill-health pievented Mr Tierney from attending. The prseehtation of a well-filled wallet was made by Mr W. Coles to Mrs Tierney. Mr H. Carr, on behalf of the residents of the distriet, thanked Mr and Mrs Tierney for their uhfailing ^d cheerful support of. the many so'cial activities and for the great amount Of good they had done. Mrs, Tierney suitably . responded. . Bankrupt Wood Merchant. A meeting of creditora in the "Bankrupt estate of Williain Edward Jones, - wood merchant, JWakarara, was held in the Courthouse, Waipukurau, beforo the Official Aseignee, Mr G. G. ChisjiOlm. Debts owing by bankrupt amounted to £108 4/8, and book debts amounted to £7 17/6.
