Tons of Concrete Removed from Site AMBULANCES CRAMMED

^jtteceive.a a.4o a.m.; NEW YORK, March 19. Martial law has been declared at the sehool and in the vicinity to faeilitate the rescue work. The Fedeial Re.d Cross, the War Department and the Bureau of Mines have set relief and investigatory maehinery in motion, and appeals for aid are being broadcast throughout the State. Private motorlorries are being used to supplement the available ambulances. The chief of State Safety Department has sent fingerprint experts to aid in the identification. The State Health Officer has ordered all department docttfrs and nurses in two counties to mobilise on the scene. One hundred National Guardsmen are maintaiping otSqt at the wrecked school while 3,000 gloved inen searched in the ruins, receiving directions from a loudspeaker. Ropes around the grounds kept parents away. Many drove to town to search for their children, while others waited at their home radio, whereby the name of each cfiild idenfied as dead was broadcast. Debris-loaded lorries were hauled away to permit further search. Scattered here and there were text-books, children 's garments and odds and ends of sehool equipment.
