In' the worst outbreak in the 12-day walk-out of 5500 taxi-cab drivers, 200 strikers massed at two points in the looj) district, wreeked cabs, slugged strike-breakers and Tsattled with squads of police, while thousands w&tched from offi.ce windows. A single shot was flred b ya strikerg which hit nobody. A mounted policeman, who rode into the mob was pulled to the ground and beaten before belng rescued when an- ; other levelled a shotgun at the crowd. i Several passengers were thrown violently from taxi-cabs and others hit by bricks. The strikers inserted a paper in. the petrol tank of one cab and ignited it, causing an explosion and fire. The windows of others wero smashed with lead ;pipes. ^
