SALEYARDS COMPANY
Our Own Oorrespondent)
Position at Porangahau
(From
WAIPUKURAU, Last Niglit. Tbe aifairs of the Porangahau Salejards Compauy were discussed at tbe montbly meeting- of tbe Porangahau branch of tbe Farmei's' Union last aigbt. For two seasons now no sale has beep held at these once popular yards, and witb tbe company's liabilities standing at £300 it has become obvious to shareholders that tbe position as at present could not continue. On Saturday next shareholders are to meet to eonsider a proposal by the directors that the company sbould go into voiuntary Iiquidation, in which case tbe yards wonld certainly be dismant'ed and tbe material sold, Tbe disposal or retention of the land on which they stand would then be a mattcr for discussion. The olrjeet and the discnssion at last niglit 's meeting was to 'sound the foeling of farmers (other thftn sharehold-. ers) on the future of the yards, and to ascertain if anv way could be found out of the present impasse. This does not seem likely, however, as no cnnclusive suggestion emerged from the discnssion.
