Sub-Union's Satisfactory Past Year 1 good profit shown ■ "The interest displayed in club football was exceptionally keen, and in all grades a good deal of enthusiasm was displayed. In the third and fourth grades a shortage of players was evident, but it is hoped that the position here will be improved iu the coming season," states the annual report of the Hastings Bugby Football SubUnion to be presented next Monday, "The 1936 season, from all points of view, was a very satisfaetory oue. The attendance of the public was gratifying, comparing favourably with the attendance during the previous season. "Financially the year has been successful. Expenditure was kept at a minimum, and the committee is able to show a profit of £67 11/8 for the season. "Club Competitions— In the senior competition the football was of a high standard, and the interest of players and public was well sustained. The junior and lower grades provided good football, due to the keenness of players and the interest displayed in the various teams by the club coaches. The winners • of the various grades in the Hastings section are as follows — Senior, ,Celtic; junior, H.S.O.B.; thirds, High School; fourths, H.S.O.B. The winners of the Napier section were successful in the final in all grades. In the senior grade, Celtic successfully challenged for the H.B. Challenge Shield, and this team was also suecessful in winning the Lane Cup competition. We off er them our congratulations on their success, "Trophies were won as follows-— } Luttrell Cup for seniors, Celtic, and ( for juniors, H.S.O.B. 1 ''Representative Fixtures— The sub- , union representative team played one , game only against Dannevirke, which . resulted in a drawn game, 6 all. The ' junior representatives also played Dan- ' nevirke and won 15 — nil. The annual ' match with the East Coast- Sub-union * was "not played as a suitable date could ' - not be arranged. It is hoped to continue the fixture this season. "Committee Attendances— -As usual the attendance of members at committee meetings was very good and all members of the committee displayed a keen interest in the season's football. - During v the year Mr. F. W. Edwards, J( of the management committee, tendered y his. resignation owing to leaving the ' , distriet, and the vacaney was filled by ' the appointment of Mr. E. Bissell. •• "Thanks — To the Beferees' Assoeiation we are again indebted for providing referees for all matches. The com- J mittee appreciates the amount of ; gratuitous work carried out by this body, and the assistance they afford 1 to the committee. We ieel that the j various clubs should use their best en- - deavours to induce players who are 1 giving up the game to join the ranks of the Beferees' Association. Thanks • are also due to the honorary doetors 1 and the St. John Ambulance men for their valued services in attending to the injured; to the players for their unfailing support in all football matters; and to any other persons who assisted in any way to make the season an outstanding success."
