WOMEN'S INSTITUTES
Keretu Gathering Thc annual meeting of the Kereru Women 'b ,Iustitute was held at Whanakino Station, Mrs. C. G. Averill presiding over a fair nttendance. Two new members were enrolled. Several letters of interest Were read and discussed. The president then prgsented a very clear report of the year 's workings, which was adopted. The report and balance-sheet of the secretary was read, a creditable balance being shown. Following are the new eommittee: Mrs. L. R. Averill, president; Mrs. W. Johnston, vice-president*; Mrs. W. A. Whyte, secretary; and Mesdames Walker, Anderson and Sheild. The retiring president was presented with a beautiful bouquet and the members joined insinging "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow. ' ' The institute's competition, "The most artistically decorated table," was judged by Mrs. A. Ogelvie, who awarded first place to Mrs. L. R. Averill, Mrs. P. Walker was second and Mrs. W. A. Whyte third. The Best Bloom competition resulted: Mrs. R. P. Kay 1, Mrs. L. R. Averill 2, and Mrs. 0. G. Averill 3. Potatoes were brought in from the potato-grow- . iUg Competition. Mrs. R. Averill was first with 371bs., Mrs. C. G. Averill second with 2llbs., and Mrs. Andersen third with 17lbs. This concluded the year's competitions fCr points prizes. Mrs. C. Averill presented Mrs. W. A. Whyte with first prize, ,Mrs. L. R. Averill with second and Miss Anderson with third. Special pfizes donated by Mrs. C. Averill for members entering most competitionS were won by Mesdames Whyte and L. R. Averill. A bu>y afternoon concluded with the National Anthem.
