WAIPAWA GATHERING

The annual meeting of the Waipawa Women's Institute was held on Saturday afternoon, Miss Jull presiding over an attendance of some 60 members. The Institute song, composed by the late Mrs. J. Bibby, founder of the Waipawa Institute, and set to music also composed by her which will be used at the half-yearly Federation meeting at Waipukurau on April 5, was sung by the members before commencing .the business of the meeting. The annual report and balance-sheet was read and adopted. Miss Jull expressecL pleasure at the progress which had marked the past year and congratulated Mrs, Preston on the very comprehensive report which had been presented. The following committee for the onsuing year was electeds — Mesdames Adeane, Grenside, Kingston, A. Logan, J. Logan, Junr., Preston, Pepperell, Thompson and Towers, Senr., and Misses. Bibby and Jull. Miss Jull was ;re-elected unopposed to the offlce of president, and Mrs. Preston was rtappointed seeretary and treasurer. Mesdames Strang and Adeane were appointed vice-presidents, and Mesdames Strang and Preston delegates to attend the Federation meeting at Waipukurau. The seeretary reported that the hanaicraft exhibition would be held at Dannevirke on May 20. Messages were received from Mrs. Deane, of the Dominion executive, and Mrs. Watta, founder of the movement. It waB decided to hold a chrysanthomum show on Tuesday, May 4. It was also recommended to the incoming committee that a prize to be called the Mary Bibby Prize should be competed for during the coming year. A further recommendation was made that as a token of esteem a tree should be planted in the park on Arbour Day to the memory of the late Mrs. Bibby. Two new members were elected, Mesdames Harwood and Finlay. The pointa prize for the year went to Mrs. Grenside and Mrs. F. Mitchell, Junr., who tied fbr first place. The offer of Mrs. Pratley to provide two small prizes, one for each of the winners, was accepted with thanks. The competition for the day was won by Mrs. A. Logan, with Mrs. Squires second. A telegram from the Karamea branch (West Coast, South Island) expressing their deepest sympathy in the death of Mrs. Bibby was read by the seeretary. A dainty afternoon tea was served, the hostesses for the day being Mesdames Osborne, Frank, Grenside, McCleary, and MacPhereon. Miss Jull thanked the members of the committee for their assistance and kearty co-operation throughout the year, and also extended thanks to all those who had assisted with demonstrations. During the afternoon several pianoforte items were rendered by Mra. Trackeray. A competition was won by Mrs. Dalton, who exhibited a most beautiful hand-bag.-
